Sapphire Dance with Malaika Arora Khan at IFFM 2014

There are many reasons for dedicating this post to the stunning Malaika Arora Khan:

  1. Malaika is currently in Melbourne as special guest for the Indian Film Festival Melbourne (IFFM).
  2. According to Wikipedia, she celebrates her birthday this month on 23 August (sharing the same birth date as my son).
  3. She’s as gracious as she is beautiful. Malaika is one of the few judges at the annual Telstra Bollywood Dance Competition who will dance amongst the contestants and grant numerous requests for selfies.
  4. Malaika is the ULTIMATE Bollywood item girl!

It’s been 18 years since the release of “Chaiyya Chaiyya”, yet it remains one of the most memorable Bollywood clips of all time. In the words of co-star Shah Rukh Khan, this song became famous “not because of the train, the director, nor the choreographer, but only because of Malaika Arora Khan”.

Maliaka turned producer for Dabangg and her sizzling appearance in “Munni Badnaam Hui” gave us the biggest hit of 2010:

After Chaiyya Chaiyya and Munni Badnaam Hui, the successful dancer-choreographer partnership between Malaika and Farah Khan continued with “Anarakali Disco Chali”.

This video had nothing going for it – the song, costumes and choreography are all awful. Malaika however manages to turn it all around, such is her camera presence.

Malaika’s last music video appears to be back in January 2015 with “Fashion Khatam Mujhpe”,  flaunting her signature look and sex appeal.

We look forward to Malaika’s next big screen appearance. In the meantime, congratulations to those Melburnians whom Malaika awarded at Telstra’s Bollywood Dance Competition 2016 – winners Natya Bollywood, Cyrus Wong (solo) and The Dancing Birds!
